Biological pathways used by the company to explain formulations and supplement uses.

Seeking Health attempts to set itself apart from other brands in the supplement industry through it’s process-based formulation. As a result, education is one of the brand’s core focuses.  One of my first projects with the company was to work with the Product Education Manager, Ceylon, to develop a new video series that would help to explain the purpose for, differences between, and formulation behind the products.

I tackle projects like this by first breaking them down into their component parts and looking for potential constraints.  Once those are flagged, I can create a solution that can maximize those outcomes with a minimum of resources.

In this project, the biggest constraints involved capturing high quality video with inexperienced talent in a remote environment and adapting complex biological process maps into simple and engaging learning tools.

I worked with Ceylon and the Director of Education to convert an unused office into short-term video studio.  I specced and ordered video and lighting equipment for the space and designed room layouts and SOPs for operating the equipment.  After everything arrived ,I worked through the entire setup process on video chat and spent time educating Ceylon on how everything she needed to use worked.

Once the studio was set up and Ceylon was comfortable using the equipment, I coached her through her first few shoots through both live video feeds and reviewing and giving notes on completed footage.

The next challenge was tackled during editing.  After working extensively with Ceylon to understand the biological processes behind the formulation of the products, I set out to create a better tool for visualizing them in the limited and focused format that video allowed. This required creating a simple and clear visual language that could be easily rearranged and animated to suit the needs of each individual video.  While I based the core elements directly on the company’s signature pathways, I opted for more visual and symbolic representations of familiar things.  Once the visuals were created in Illustrator, I animated all of the elements to follow closely with the script, stopping to focus on and highlight important elements as necessary.

The series has been a success on the website’s product pages and has been rolled out on Amazon listings as well.  As production has expanded, I’ve brought on another video producer to help operate and edit. I have streamlined the post production process with templates and simplified animation that no longer requires round-tripping to After Effects. Over 20 videos have been produced and another dozen are in production with plans to produce videos for all of the company’s 100+ products.
