About
About Me

I’m a Creative Director and Producer based in greater Los Angeles. Although I have personally produced hundreds of videos, captured thousands of photos, and developed dozens of new campaigns, my specialty is in growing and directing cross-functional teams with diverse skill sets.  I work closely with companies to develop ways to use media to connect more genuinely with their audience. My focus is on companies’ unique needs, available resources, and plans for future growth.

There’s a particular set of personalty quirks that combine to shape my own skill set.

The first, and most important, is my fascination with how things work.  Whenever I discover something new and interesting I am compelled to dissect it, analyze how all of the pieces come together to create the whole, and then find ways to share and communicate what I’ve learned in simple ways. This is a through-line in my passion for branding, design, and creative problem solving.

Once I’ve gotten involved in something I’m always driven to improve it.  It can be as simple as enhancing design and aesthetics to build clarity or as complex as reimagining an entire process or project.  Although I never stop hunting for improvements, I am also tempered by a the importance of project constraints and always push for completion and iteration over endless revision.

Beyond those more logistical and technical quirks, I am also a truly positive person.  Companies and projects are shaped by the people who make them and I am excited to meet and be involved with every one of them, learn what excites them, and discover things we may have in common.  Challenges propel me and greeting them with the right attitude, even as setbacks may stack up, will always be my default.

I live in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains in Altadena with my wife, toddler, and golden retriever. I love both the outdoors and the city and can be found adventuring with my family on the trails near my house or exploring nearby Pasadena.

Select Work History

I started my path into creative production in the Animation industry, learning how to optimize a large and complex production that ran on tight deadlines.  I had the opportunity to jump into a startup in the food and health space and grew the company’s market and brand trust through video.  I moved into a larger company to focus on differentiating their brand and broad product catalog by developing strong education and identity campaigns.

Things I’m Obsessed With

I have an immutable hunger to learn new things and it leads me down rabbit holes and fascinations. At one point this had me flagged as a “hobby collector” and I often found myself declaring, “No new hobbies!” when I came across something new.  Although my curiosity is something that will never be quieted, there are a few things I that will always have a place in my life (and apparently way too much time in my garage).

Family

This shouldn’t be surprising but I just can’t get enough of these three. My wife Emily is an English Teacher. Theo, the golden retriever, is five and obsessed with his stuffed llamas. Yves, who is three, is currently obsessed with doing the same race car puzzle over and over. We love to do things as a family, whether it’s local adventures, travel, or just running around our yard with the hose.

Cooking

I’ve cooked since I was little and grown a fascination for trying to truly master making restaurant-quality dishes from scratch at home. Whether it’s pizza in my Ooni oven, tacos with tortillas made from corn I ground myself, a gourmet plated sous vide meal, or a cake for somebody’s birthday, I just can’t stop. Emily makes fun of me because I consider an hour of cooking a “quick” meal.

Coffee

I didn’t touch coffee till my mid-twenties but I made sure to make up for lost time. Once I discovered third wave lattes my DIY gene kicked in and I bought my first espresso machine. I learned how to make great coffee and latte art before mastering as many other brewing techniques as I could find. Let’s just say you know you have a problem when you find yourself spending days researching water chemistry!

Biking

I remember riding on the back of my dad’s bike when I was little and taking in the green rolling hills of Wisconsin. Fast forward to my twenties in LA where I bought my first bike as an adult to explore the city. Next came the fixed gear craze and building my first bike, then roadie days and waking up at 5am for 25 mile rides in the Malibu mountains. Now I’ve come full circle and take Yves out to soak up the city.

Building & Wrenching

At some point in my childhood my dad must have realized it was cheaper to just buy me real tools instead of toy ones. I have always enjoyed building, fixing, and creating things. I’ve built furniture for my home, torn apart and rebuilt motorcycle engines, and even created a massive overhead installation of over 100 gold tetrahedrals for my wedding.

Wine, Cocktails, & Whisk(e)y

There’s something fascinating to me about the history, craft, and endless variation in wine and spirits. After learning as much as I can, I love to turn around and share that education with others. Some of my first video projects taught people about wine and shared cocktail recipes. I love traveling to wine regions and discovering new tastes, but I also frequently circle back to my favorites. (Wine: Sta. Rita Hills, Cocktail: Corn ‘n Oil, Bourbon: Booker’s, Scotch: Dailuaine)

Hiking & Camping

I grew up camping with my family in the lake-filled Northern Wisconsin. Since moving to the West I’ve adventured outdoors as much as possible and even converted my once outdoors-averse wife to a badass backpacker. Getting outside of the city and away from cell reception is incredibly rejuvenative for me and I can’t wait to share it with my son Yves.

Music & Drums

Music has always had a huge pull on me, able to sweep me away from my more analytical thinking. My parents noticed this at a young age and, after seeing me tapping on tables, somehow thought it would be a good idea to buy me a drumset. I played in school bands, rock bands with friends, and attended Berklee College of Music to expand my knowledge. I’ve gotten to record and press vinyl and play all of my favorite small venues in LA.
